Why this consultation platform?
Food delivery workers, couriers, platform managers: time for dialogue!
Organised work via platforms is increasingly developing. As it expands, so do the uncertainties and fears it generates.
The government plans to focus its attention on these workers, who must be able to carry out their activities under good conditions and with better social protection.
In this respect, the Minister of Labour wishes to launch a broad consultation.
What are we talking about?
It is difficult to quantify, but it is estimated that between 10,000 and 80,000 people are active in different sectors. For example, the well-known Deliveroo employed 900 couriers in our country in 2017. In January 2020, they were 3,500!
Numerous but invisible workers
But while platform workers are very active, they rarely appear in official statistics. We don't really know how many or what they earn.
"Together with the social partners and the sectors concerned, we want to evaluate the law on the nature of labour relations. If necessary, to adapt it. And, besides the official consultation bodies, we have therefore decided to open the discussion to all those concerned and to debate", adds Deputy Prime Minister Dermagne.
"Such a consultation will give us a good insight into the diversity of the platform economy. These platforms facilitate, for example, the start of certain self-employment activities. Hence the importance of analysing this situation with all parties concerned", says David Clarinval, the Minister for the Self-Employed.
A consultation platform to enrich the discussion
Users, restaurateurs or shopkeepers, workers organised or not in a collective, but also platform organisers or managers are invited to enrich the discussion via this consultation platform. The aim is to ensure good working conditions and better social protection for these workers.
Discussions will focus around platforms that organise work via an "order-giver application" (and therefore not those that just put people in touch).
In addition to spaces for testimonials, ideas and proposals, the platform will also feature recent research, reports and articles on this topic.
